Before 1999, Mental Health Services in Kosovo were organized inside the public health system at the University Hospital in Pristine and neuro-psychiatric words inside the General Hospitals in four other bigger centers. The treatment was mostly biological, centralized and patient-focused, using, at the same time, family resources and strength that were the biggest resource for surviving at that time. Fortunately, we had not built any big psychiatric hospitals. The patients with serious psychiatric disorders were treated in psychiatric hospitals in the ex-Yugoslav Republics of Serbia and Macedonia.
